Brewery: Brouwerij Huyghe (Belgium)
Style: Belgian Strong Ale
Alcohol: 8.5% ABV
When I’m in Peterborough, Ontario, a place I’ve become quite fond of is St. Veronus, a Belgian-themed pub with a good selection of beers from Belgium (as well as from other countries, including the locally-brewed Publican House’s Belgian ale). On a recent spontaneous road trip to the city on the cusp of cottage country, I stopped into St. Veronus and started with Delirium Tremens, a strong Belgian ale that measures up to 8.5% ABV.
Appearance
Delirium Tremens pours a clear yellow colour with a light, foamy, white head. It’s surprisingly clear for a Belgian ale.
Aroma
The ale’s nose is a lot of bubblegum and Belgian ale spiciness.
Taste
With a creamy mouthfeel and a light bubblegum flavour that’s normal for a lot of Belgian ales (particularly stronger Belgian ales), there also seems to be some hints of clove, fruit and banana.
Overall
Although Delirium Tremens tends to get strong ratings from various reviews, I find it to be a fairly mediocre Belgian strong ale. There’s not anything necessarily wrong with it, but it doesn’t stand out as a spectacular strong beer, either.
Rating:

I have been serching for outlets for this beer forr weeks. No luck. It is only sold on tap in bars. Do you know of some bars that may carrie it?? I live in the west end of GTA. Etobicoke, Mississauga, Brampton and Oakville is my normal hang outs. I will travell further just to get a taste of this beauty.

I’m afraid I don’t know all that much about west end GTA bars, but if you know of any place that focuses on Belgian beers, you’re almost certain to find. In Peterborough, it’s regularly on tap at St. Veronus (granted, probably not much help). You could probably find it in Toronto at The Monk’s Table. Various other places likely have it on tap at times.
