Garrison Spruce Beer now available

Garrison Brewing of Halifax, Nova Scotia launched its winter seasonal Spruce Beer today, and according to the brewery’s Twitter feed, it sold 24 bottles of the brew in the first 20 minutes of business today.

Unfortunately, the beer is only available in Halifax, so the rest of us throughout the Great White North are out of luck, but it sounds like Nova Scotians are getting a bit of a treat from Garrison. The beer was brewed with freshly-cut spruce tips that were collected by the Garrison brewers.

It seems like it’s a time for historic beer styles. First Beau’s Bog-Water, and now Garrison’s Spruce Beer.

If you get your hands on Garrison’s festive brew, let me know your thoughts, ’cause I won’t be gettin’ any.

I had never had spruce beer before. When I was a kid growing up in Cape Breton,Nova Scotia I had a friend whose grand dad made spruce beer. When I heard about Garrisons spruce brew I was really curious to try it. I was fortunate to get the last five bottles from a 3rd party seller,” Crystall & Luckett”. I must say I was pleasantly surprised by this beer. After pouring the first pint you get a nice waft of molasses and very subtle spruce.7.5% alcohol and dark. A really interesting ale.Delicious.Highly recommended. If your a fan of Seasonal brews another great brew from Halifax comes from Propellar Brewery. It’s called “Russian Imperial Stout” aka ” Propeller Revolution”. Another heady(8%) and delicious beer that’s also in limited supply.Well worth seeking out.

    Cheers,Michael
