The first Saturday of November has, for the last several years, been reserved for Teach A Friend to Homebrew Day. And in the spirit of the day, the Southern Ontario Brewers homebrew club has run its Learn2Brew event on that day at the Amsterdam Brewery for the last few years.
This year is no different. The SOBs will be setting up their mills and brew kettles to run brewing demonstrations on November 2 between 10:00 and 6:00 at Amsterdam’s facilities at 45 Esander Dr. in Toronto.
The 2013 event marks the fifth such event the SOBs have run.
“Homebrewers are proud of our craft, and usually take any opportunity we can get to show it off,” said Jason Stranak, one of the event organizers, in a statement. “We hope to attract members of the public with an interest in craft beer, homebrewing or anyone who enjoys tasting and learning about hand-crafted, full-flavoured beer. We are inviting the public to come out to view the beer brewing demonstrations and learn about the hobby and ask questions about the brewing process.”
I’ve attended (and even brewed) at a couple of SOB Learn2Brew events in the past, and they end up being a lot of fun, as well as educational. I missed last year’s because of my move out of Ontario, but I’ll be arriving in Toronto a couple of days before the event. I don’t plan on missing it this year. Neither should you.
