Learn2Brew Day brings out 14 homebrewers running brewing demos

Amsterdam Brewing played host again for the annual Learn2Brew Day, which takes place every year on the first Saturday of November. Run by homebrew club Southern Ontario Brewers (SOB), the day-long event brings together homebrewers to demonstrate basic and advanced brewing techniques.

Fourteen homebrewers showed up with their various brewing setups (and yours truly tagged along with homebrewer and friend Kevin Tighe to help demonstrate his all-grain brewing gear) and spent the day making beer — and at least two brewers made mead. One of the reasons for Learn2Brew Day is to introduce others to the hobby and answer questions about the brewing process, and it seemed like this year had more on-lookers, including various beer lovers who had showed up to buy some Amsterdam beer, experienced homebrewers come to mix and mingle, and people looking to take their first steps into the hobby.

This year marked the third Learn2Brew Day run by the SOBs and hosted by Amsterdam. In speaking with others at the event, including this year’s organizer and SOB member Jason Stranak (pictured), the third instalment of Learn2Brew Day was a great success. Several people who were brand new to the hobby walked away with a much clearer idea about how homebrewing works and what equipment is necessary. Chances are, many homebrewer setup ideas were stolen and compared (I know I swiped a few).

Cheers to the SOBs for putting on another great Learn2Brew Day event.

Thanks for coming out to the event, Chris. The day went really well, and it was good to see you again.

  2. It was great fun, Jason. I’ll look forward to next year’s event, as well.

Unfortunately, we may not get another chance to connect for a beer for a few weeks. I can’t make CABA’s AGM this year. Any chance you’ll be at the December Evening With a Brewer event? Mitch from Rohrbach is coming back to talk about winter warmers, so it should be a good time.
